Poetry Sunday: Welcome Darkness

Welcome Darkness

Welcome Darkness!

I honor your possibilities.

Nourishing me deeply,

Your abyss shows me the power of the light unfolding.

The flame from one candle, one ray

Illuminates the nightfall within and with out.

Bringing meaning to my life,

To the interconnectedness of the seasons shifting.

The shaded becomes light again

Filling me, balancing on this Solstice day.

Radiating hope into the chasm,

A peaceful reflection on this barren world.

I honor the magic of this frozen season-

Invigorated, chilled, filling my senses, my soul.

Resting, daydreaming, shedding the scree.

Emerging refreshed in the fertile light of the lengthening day.

This poem came to me on the Winter Solstice as I meditated and contemplated the darkness and light, the passing of one season to the next… grateful for winter’s rest, healing and illumination.

  1. Indeed there is something about the frozen season that makes us reflect and recollect. Somehow the light manages to get through.

  2. I so agree with your Respect
“I honor the magic of this frozen season-”

to approach each season with respect is to understand the necessity of day and night

    Happy New Year Donna

    much love…

  3. Smiling here. And thinking of Art and Garfunkle – specifically ‘Hello darkness my old friend’.
I love the change of seasons, and have a particular fondness for the pared back elegance of autumn and winter. Summer? Not so much.

  4. you captured the flow of the seasons and the need for light and darkness, which is also within us. Lovely writing and photo. Thank you.

  5. Such, a beautiful message i n this poem, to embrace everything that comes our way, be it light or dark.
